This opportunity offers physicians the chance to make a meaningful impact while serving those who serve our nation. As a Certified Nurse Midwife on a short-term contract supporting the Department of Defense, you will provide high-quality medical care to active-duty service members, their families, and eligible DoD civilian employees.
You will perform a broad range of duties in accordance with commercial best practices and local, federal, and agency-wide guidance. Your work includes comprehensive primary care for women from menarche through menopause, managing prenatal, postpartum, well woman gynecologic, family planning, and pre-conceptual care.
You will participate in the care of women with medical complications through consultation, collaboration, and referral with Obstetricians-Gynecologists. This assignment offers the unique opportunity to live and work in Okinawa’s vibrant cultural environment while contributing to the health and readiness of the U.S. military community overseas.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution
- Graduate from a certified nurse midwife education program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)
- Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board
- Full, current, valid, unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia that abides by the State requirements of the location of performance
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications
Responsibilities
- Perform a broad range of duties as a Certified Nurse Midwife in accordance with commercial best practices, local, federal, and agency-wide guidance
- Provide comprehensive primary care to women from menarche through menopause, including prenatal, postpartum, well woman gynecologic, family planning, and pre-conceptual care
- Participate in the care of women with medical complications, with consultation, collaboration, and referral to Obstetricians-Gynecologists
- Manage the care of normal antepartum women including teaching, counseling, and support
- Take health history, perform and record obstetrical physical evaluations, and collect, document, and evaluate patient data
- Assess patient needs, formulate, and implement a plan of care consistent with established guidelines
- Manage antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including managing and controlling normal spontaneous deliveries and recording labor and delivery
- Prescribe medications as required in accordance with MTF privileges
