About this role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the maternity team at University Hospitals Birmingham. The post holder will focus on intrapartum complex care, working alongside the consultant midwife for midwifery led care and public health. Provide strategic support for the Director of Midwifery and the Heads of Midwifery.

The key purpose is to ensure a high level of intellectual and practice expertise within the senior maternity team. Drive forward and evaluate changes in midwifery practice to improve quality of care for women and families. Contribute to the Trust's Clinical Governance agenda and National Maternity Transformation requirements.

UHB is a tertiary centre providing care for women with complex needs, supporting a level 3 neonatal unit at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and a level 1 unit at Good Hope Hospital. The consultant midwife role is characterised by four principal functions: expert practice, professional leadership, education and development, and practice development with research and evaluation. Spend 50% of time clinically facing.

Requirements

  • Expertise in intrapartum complex care for vulnerable women and families
  • Advanced midwifery practice knowledge aligned with national and local policies
  • Leadership skills to support autonomous midwifery practice
  • Ability to challenge traditional models and promote evidence-based practice
  • Experience in clinical governance, staff development and maternity transformation
  • Proficiency in midwifery research, audit and evaluation
  • Visionary consultancy to act as ambassador for maternity services

Responsibilities
