The Childbirth Educator RN, IBCLC/CLC participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of community education programs for childbirth preparation, sibling education and women's health. Coordinates the planning, implementation and evaluation of special programs as required. Furthers own professional growth and education.

Teaches and conducts community and patient education programs related to women's and child health for 60% of time. Assesses participants' skills, selects appropriate teaching methods and media, and uses adult learning principles in presentations. Consults with Women's Health Services leaders on program content and revisions.

Evaluates program effectiveness via surveys and observation for 20% of time, submitting summaries for continuous improvement. Maintains records of attendance and metrics for 15%, notifying referral agencies like WIC. Handles administrative tasks including room arrangements.

Maintains knowledge of current nursing techniques, procedures and developments in education through conferences, seminars and literature for 5% of time. Works hard, cares deeply and reaches further in career and community. Inspires hope while learning and achieving more.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • IBCLC or CLC certification
  • Knowledge of childbirth preparation, sibling education and women's health topics
  • Proficiency in adult learning principles for education program development
  • Familiarity with current nursing techniques and procedures in maternity care
  • Ability to assess participant skills and adapt teaching methods
  • Experience evaluating educational programs through surveys and observation

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present education sessions and practical instruction using a variety of media

  • Consult with leaders of Women's Health Services to develop additional programs

  • Maintain records of attendance, evaluations and other metrics of program participants
  • Coordinate room arrangements, supplementary speakers and other administrative responsibilities
