About this role
Neonatal Feeding Specialist delivers services to premature and medically complex infants in the NICU or Newborn Nursery related to feeding difficulties. The role assesses and documents baseline status and changes while including families in regular updates. Consultative advice supports staff and families at Methodist Women's Hospital.
Daily work coordinates comprehensive infant feeding services using evidence-based practices for newborns and convalescing infants. Initial and ongoing feeding assessments identify strengths, functional levels, thresholds and sensitivities. Recommendations guide the multidisciplinary team on feeding changes and patient-specific education.
Collaboration occurs through multidisciplinary rounds, daily rounds and discharge planning with NICU leadership and staff. Family-centered care blends individualized needs with medical interventions while policies integrate current research. Materials and reference guidance help families continue feeding practices after discharge.
