About this role

The main function of the midwife is to be the primary care provider to women during the childbearing year within a multidisciplinary team. All services are delivered in accordance with the Midwifery Model of Practice and the Standards of the College of Midwives of Manitoba.

The midwife maintains communication and positive working relationships with community and hospital staff, public health, and emergency medical services. She or he works cooperatively within a practice group of midwives to provide equitable on-call coverage, with shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and standby coverage as required.

This role operates within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, part of an integrated network of health care services united by a commitment to excellent and equitable health care. The midwife works in a hybrid arrangement, providing care at WRHA Community Health Services - Access Winnipeg West, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Recent midwifery practice experience meeting the College of Midwives of Manitoba’s Standards for Currency of Practice.
  • Experience working with multicultural and disadvantaged populations (preferred).
  • Graduate of an educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and neonatal resuscitation certification (NRP) with intubation.
  • Eligible for Registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba as a practicing midwife, supervised candidate, or exam candidate.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s license.
  • Eligibility for liability insurance coverage purchased by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary care provider to women during the childbearing year within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver all midwifery services in accordance with the Midwifery Model of Practice and the Standards of the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
  • Maintain communication and positive working relationships with community and hospital staff, public health, and emergency medical services.
  • Work cooperatively within a practice group of midwives to provide equitable on-call coverage, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and standby.
  • Engage in professional activities to enhance competency and midwifery services.
  • Provide care at WRHA Community Health Services - Access Winnipeg West with a hybrid work arrangement.
