About this role
Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA SRH National Programme Analyst, the international consultant in midwifery education will serve as the lead. Responsible for the overall methodological approach, development of the assessment framework, and design of the competency-based framework. Work collaboratively with the national consultant to develop evidence-based recommendations.
Strengthen SRHR competencies within the national midwifery competency model in line with international standards. Address gaps in quality of care, clinical competencies of health workers, and alignment with WHO and ICM guidelines. Focus on practical skills training and evidence-based SRHR content integration.
UNFPA Kazakhstan supports updating postgraduate curricula and pre-service midwifery education systems. Respond to 2023 rapid assessment highlighting challenges in competency-based approaches and links between education and practice. Align with the UNFPA Country Programme for Kazakhstan 2026–2030 priority on curriculum reforms.
Contribute to ending preventable maternal deaths and fulfilling UNFPA's mandate on safe childbirth. Participate in foundational 2026 stage of phased reforms for assessment and framework development. Equip graduates with competencies for high-quality, respectful, evidence-based care by 2030.
Requirements
- Expertise in midwifery education
- Knowledge of international standards (WHO, ICM)
- Experience in competency-based education frameworks
- Familiarity with SRHR competencies
- Skills in curriculum structure design
- Ability to conduct competency assessments
- Understanding of gaps in clinical competencies and quality of care
