About this role
Applications are invited for a Specialist in Psychiatry to provide excellent clinical expertise and service in the Specialist Women’s Mental Health Centre. This transformative service supports Victorian women with complex conditions including trauma, eating disorders, and perinatal mental health issues.
The role involves 24 hours per week of clinical work, focusing on women with complex mental health needs. The specialist will provide expert care in a multidisciplinary setting, collaborating with other clinicians to deliver comprehensive treatment.
The Centre is part of Bayside Health, a public health service delivering high-quality care across every stage of life for nearly 1.2 million people. The organization has over 22,000 staff committed to exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care.
Education and training are central to staff development, with involvement in teaching and research encouraged. The position commences in August 2026 and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative women's mental health service at Bayside Health.
Requirements
- Legally qualified medical practitioner, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact clinical practice.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).
- Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Psychiatry.
- Demonstrable experience in the treatment of eating disorders.
- Meets Alfred Care Group requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Psychiatry.
- Experience in teaching is desirable.
- Involvement in research is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent clinical expertise and service in the Specialist Women’s Mental Health Centre.
- Assess and manage women with complex mental health conditions, including trauma, eating disorders, and perinatal mental health issues.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Supervise junior medical staff and trainees, contributing to education and training programs.
- Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to advance women's mental health care.
- Provide outpatient and inpatient psychiatric consultations as part of the 24-hour per week role.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to coordinate care.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with credentialing and scope of practice requirements.
