In this role, you will provide expert lactation care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will assess each dyad's needs, develop individualized care plans, and offer hands-on support for challenges such as engorgement, low milk supply, or special needs like prematurity or cleft lip.
Our team collaborates closely to coordinate care and ensure smooth discharge plans with continued lactation resources. You'll also serve as a consultant to other healthcare providers, sharing your advanced clinical knowledge in human lactation.

Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Mississippi.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
- Experience in maternal-child health or postpartum care.
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized lactation care and clinical management for breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyads, as well as pumping parents, using evidence-based practices.
- Assess patient and infant needs and develop individualized lactation care plans to address challenges and optimize feeding outcomes.
- Facilitate breastfeeding by teaching proper positioning, latch techniques, breast care, and strategies for managing challenges like engorgement or low milk supply.
- Support parents of infants with special needs, such as premature infants or those with medical conditions, offering tailored interventions and guidance.
- Educate parents and families on feeding cues, milk expression techniques, and use of manual or electric breast pumps to promote confidence and self-efficacy.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate care and ensure appropriate discharge plans, providing resources for continued lactation support.
- Address contraindications to breastfeeding and provide alternative feeding plans or pumping support as necessary.
- Attend deliveries and cesarean sections when needed to initiate lactation support.
