Join Cleveland Clinic’s Mercy Hospital, where research and surgery are advanced, technology is leading-edge, and patient care is world-class. As a Lactation Consultant, you will provide lactation support to breastfeeding patients in Postpartum and the Special Care Nursery.

You will be responsible for placing follow-up phone calls to discharged breastfeeding patients and helping with weekly outpatient support groups and consults. This involves performing initial and ongoing assessments of the mother/baby dyad’s lactation goals and issues.

You will work alongside passionate and dedicated caregivers at a facility that offers a wide variety of medical specialties. Mercy Hospital became a full member of Cleveland Clinic Health System in 2021, providing advanced technology and leading-edge research.

This is an ideal role for a caregiver who enjoys working with patients and has a passion for breastfeeding. Your work helps ensure that breastfeeding mothers have support from someone knowledgeable about positioning, latching, and when to supplement.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including afternoons and weekends (PRN schedule).
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding positioning, latching, and when to supplement.
  • Experience providing lactation support in postpartum and special care nursery settings.
  • Strong patient education and counseling skills.
  • Ability to perform mother/baby dyad assessments and develop appropriate feeding plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of the mother/baby dyad’s lactation goals and issues.
  • Develop evidence-based feeding plans that address the mother’s and infant’s feeding issues.
  • Design and implement patient education, caregiver development, consultation, research, and community involvement.
  • Support community outreach.
  • Place follow-up phone calls to breastfeeding patients that were discharged.
  • Help with weekly outpatient support groups and outpatient consults.
