Cairo, EG · Part-time · $85,000 – $115,000

About this role

Strengthening Midwifery is a key priority in the regional work of the United Nations Population Fund in the Arab States. The role supports improving maternal and newborn health while advancing universal access to sexual and reproductive health services across the region.

Persistent challenges include limited recognition of midwifery as an autonomous profession and gender or systemic barriers that reduce the number of leaders shaping policy. The Arab Regional Midwifery Advisory Group was created to empower emerging leaders and guide national strategy implementation.

The consultant will deliver technical assistance to countries updating midwifery curricula and strategies. Daily work centers on mentoring advisory group members and building their capacity to provide country-level support aligned with the regional framework launched in 2022.

This position offers the chance to influence high-level policy alongside the League of Arab States and WHO EMRO. Contributions directly advance UNFPA’s 2026–2029 Strategic Plan outcomes on ending preventable maternal deaths and expanding quality midwifery-led care.
