About this role

The Band 6 Midwife is directly responsible for providing midwifery care to mothers and their families in hospital and community settings. This role operates within a consultant-led team midwifery system with significant emphasis on multi-disciplinary working. Accurate and contemporaneous records are maintained for all care, advice, visits, and progress.

Practice safely by adhering to HSSD policies, national guidelines, and midwives rules and standards, accessing a supervisor when required. Report any deviations from the norm to the ward manager, obstetrician, or registered medical practitioner. Undertake assessments of women with complex care needs including undifferentiated conditions.

Develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care to meet these needs. Initiate risk assessment processes to minimise risks to health and wellbeing. Utilise data from various sources to identify problems and guide decisions, requesting specific clinical tests within expertise.

Promote service user involvement in care planning, delivery, and evaluation, respecting wishes, beliefs, and dignity. Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams and agencies. Participate in on-call rotas for home births and the maternity unit.

Requirements

  • Valid NMC/NMBI registration held for 6 months
  • Previous 12 months experience in a nursing role
  • Excellent clinical skills and knowledge
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Flexibility to work different shifts including nights and weekends
  • Right to live and work in the UK without Visa/Sponsorship
