About this role
Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is a private nonprofit community-based system serving a 22-county region. You will provide and coordinate in- and out-patient breastfeeding needs, updating resources and documentation, and training staff and community.
You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized teaching plans for patients with specific learning needs. This involves identifying discharge planning needs, making appropriate referrals, and providing telephone counseling as needed. Documentation of patient interventions ensures continuity of care, and you assist nurses and other health professionals in their breastfeeding assessment and intervention skills.
You will maintain current and accurate patient breastfeeding materials and resources. The role reports to the RN/Nurse Manager and involves assisting nurses and other health professionals in refining their breastfeeding skills. Participation in relevant committees and planning boards is expected, and you will orient students and staff to the lactation program. Offering formal and informal educational programs is a key responsibility.
You will participate in community education activities and programs, providing resources to individuals and groups. Attending seminars, workshops, and conferences related to your clinical specialty supports ongoing professional growth. Reading current professional publications and consulting with other healthcare professionals keeps you at the forefront of lactation practice.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved school of Nursing.
- Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Florida.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
- Two to five years of nursing experience.
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- Advanced training in Certified Lactation Consultant program (preferred).
- One to two years as a Lactation Consultant (preferred).
Responsibilities
