About this role

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife provides full-scope midwifery care including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services. Care follows evidence-based guidelines and patient-centered principles while advancing health equity across the practice. The role also includes hospital coverage and participation in defined call schedules.

Daily responsibilities encompass reviewing normal and abnormal laboratory results, performing telephone triage, and coordinating care with nursing, social work, and consultants. Close collaboration with obstetricians ensures timely consultation and escalation whenever clinical situations require physician involvement. All activities align with regulatory standards and scope of practice.

As primary clinical leader for the CNM team, the position delivers mentorship, onboarding, and ongoing professional development. The Lead partners with the Lead OB Collaborator to maintain consistent workflows and shared expectations between physicians and midwives. Standardization of documentation and clinical patterns supports reliable, high-quality care.

Additional duties include peer review, maternal outcome monitoring, and workforce planning to expand midwifery services. The role contributes to policy development, scheduling models, and recruitment efforts that strengthen the Atlantic Medical Group practice. Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) with current certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  • Licensed in the State of New Jersey
  • Eligible for credentialing within Atlantic Health System
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical midwifery experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, mentorship, or program development strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-scope midwifery care including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services
  • Deliver care that reflects evidence-based guidelines, patient-centered principles, and commitment to health equity
  • Collaborate closely with obstetricians to ensure safe, timely consultation and escalation of care
  • Serve as the primary clinical leader for the CNM team within the AMG practice
  • Provide mentorship, onboarding, coaching, and professional development for CNMs
  • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of midwifery services within AMG
  • Participate in workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and retention of CNMs
