Are you a strategic Registered Midwife ready to provide guidance and leadership to enhance patient safety, service quality, and exceptional patient experience? Do you advocate strongly for patients while driving quality care and fostering continuous improvement? We invite you to join us as our Head of Midwifery.

In this position, advance the service by implementing innovative strategies that empower our workforce at all levels, aligning with staff development plans and departmental objectives. Collaborate with the Head of Midwifery on the Isle of Wight during planned absences. Engage in off-site work as part of a reciprocal arrangement.

Cultivate a culture that engages staff and maximises their potential, ensuring they are motivated to deliver optimal care. Promote effective teamwork to create a positive working environment. Work alongside the Director of Midwifery and the Specialty Triumvirate to develop an annual business plan.

Align the business plan with commissioning intentions and organisational objectives, demonstrating effective group model collaboration with the Isle of Wight. Be part of the senior midwifery team on-call requirements, providing out of hours and weekend senior cover for maternity services. Requirements

  • Registered Midwife
  • Strategic leadership to enhance patient safety, service quality, and patient experience
  • Strong advocacy for patients and driving quality care
  • Experience implementing innovative strategies to empower workforce
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement
  • Ability to develop evidence-based services and learn from patient experience
  • Skills in promoting a positive safety culture and Just Culture
  • Expertise in maternity service performance monitoring and workforce management

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the direct delivery of operational maternity services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year
  • Maintain visible presence in clinical areas to promote high standards of care and support staff delivery and morale
  • Work with the Director of Midwifery to ensure clinical governance, risk management, quality and safety arrangements
  • Develop strategic and annual service plans in collaboration with the Maternity and Divisional Management team
  • Monitor service performance against targets and develop action plans to meet performance targets
  • Manage the midwifery and support worker workforce including planning, recruitment, selection and career development
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of personnel policies for the employment of staff
  • Collaborate with the Director of Midwifery and Maternity to ensure effective women and public involvement
