About this role
The Lactation Consultant (RN) provides skilled lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants throughout the healthcare facility. This includes both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role promotes breastfeeding using evidence-based care management.
Day-to-day duties involve contacting physician offices, patients, and other departments to facilitate patient care. Orders breastfeeding and pump supplies for the unit and restocks as needed. Accurately enters information and consults into the hospital Electronic Medical Record system.
Manages CMQCC data to support quality care initiatives. Provides education for nursing staff on lactation topics. Helps facilitate educational classes for patients to enhance breastfeeding success.
This position operates in a dynamic maternity care environment focused on evidence-based practices. Collaborates across departments to drive positive changes in clinical settings. Contributes to overall patient and staff education in midwifery and maternity care.
Requirements
- IBCLC required within six (6) months of hire
- State RN license required
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current
- NRP within 30 days upon hire and maintain current
- At least one (1) year of previous experience
- Experience using computers for consultation documentation
