About this role
The midwife is an autonomous practitioner who provides safe, flexible maternity care to women in a variety of settings such as the client’s home, in community clinics and in hospitals. The role is to be the primary care provider to women accepted into care and their newborn during the childbearing year. Midwifery care is provided until six weeks postpartum.
The midwife works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and provides service delivery in accordance with policies and procedures of Southern Health-Santé Sud, the Midwifery Model of Practice and Standards of the College of Midwives of Manitoba. The incumbent exercises initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods. The position functions consistent with the mission, vision, values and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Requirements
- Graduate of an educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification with intubation
- Active registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba
- Knowledge of the Midwifery Model of Practice and Standards
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask independently
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, flexible maternity care to women in client's home, community clinics and hospitals
- Serve as primary care provider to women accepted into care and their newborn during childbearing year
- Deliver midwifery care to women and newborn until six weeks postpartum
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Refer to public health/primary care for continuity of access beyond childbearing year
- Exercise initiative and independent judgment in work priorities and methods
- Follow policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud, Midwifery Model of Practice and CMM Standards
