About this role

The midwife is an autonomous practitioner who provides safe, flexible maternity care to women in settings such as the client’s home, community clinics, and hospitals. As the primary care provider, the midwife supports women and their newborns during the childbearing year. Care extends until six weeks postpartum.

The midwife works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, delivering services per Southern Health-Santé Sud policies, the Midwifery Model of Practice, and College of Midwives of Manitoba standards. The role involves exercising initiative and independent judgment in work priorities and methods. Action is taken on unusual matters consistently with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification with intubation
  • Active or eligible registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba
  • Knowledge of the Midwifery Model of Practice and Standards
  • Knowledge and proficiency of computer applications
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, flexible maternity care to women in client's home, community clinics, and hospitals
  • Serve as primary care provider to women accepted into care and their newborns during childbearing year
  • Deliver midwifery care to women and newborn until six weeks postpartum
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Provide service delivery in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policies, Midwifery Model of Practice, and College of Midwives of Manitoba standards
  • Ensure continuity of access to care beyond childbearing year by referring to public health or primary care
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods
