The Lactation Consultant provides assessment, assistance, and support related to infant nutrition, with a focus on breastfeeding, for infants, adult and adolescent mothers, and their families. Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center offers full-service care with specialties including a birth center and breast health center, combining community hospital feel with advanced skills. Daily responsibilities include assessing infant feeding, providing breastfeeding support, and educating staff, physicians, and the community on lactation topics. Participation in inpatient and outpatient operations ensures seamless maternal and infant care.
Work closely with physicians and staff to promote collaboration and communication in a supportive environment. Requirements
- Current applicable Lactation Consultant state license
- IBCLC Certification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (recertification every 5 years)
- AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers
- Demonstrated ability of expert interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively
- Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic health record (EHR)
- Knowledge of infant nutrition and breastfeeding best practices
Responsibilities
- Provide assessment, assistance, and support of infant nutrition, particularly breastfeeding, to infants, adult and adolescent mothers, and families
- Provide education to staff, physicians, and the community on lactation and infant feeding
- Work closely with physicians and staff, promoting collaboration and communication
- Participate effectively in daily operations of both inpatient and outpatient care
- Assess breastfeeding latch, positioning, and milk transfer for mother-infant dyads
- Develop individualized care plans for lactation challenges like engorgement or low supply
- Support pumping and alternative feeding methods when needed
