The RN Lactation Consultant provides care to obstetrics patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period in the Infant Feeding Program.

Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family as the leader and integrator of care.

The role delivers inpatient and outpatient lactation services on 8-hour day shifts with every third weekend rotation. The position is .6 FTE equaling 24 hours per week and 48 hours per two-week pay period.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Vocational degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Tier 1: Recent IBCLC experience with inpatient AND outpatient lactation services
  • Tier 2: IBCLC experience with inpatient OR outpatient lactation services
  • Tier 3: IBCLC or intent to obtain IBCLC within 6 months, and two years of postpartum or labor and delivery experience
  • 0 to 2 years RN experience; may consider new graduate RN

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care.
  • Provides care to the obstetrics patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period.
  • Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
  • Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
  • Establishes realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
