About this role

The Patient Services Specialist I creates a positive patient experience by consistently exceeding expectations in customer service and patient care. This role coordinates clerical and medical activities of a healthcare team. It handles patient registration activities and facilitates access to UTMB services for new and returning patients.

Provides high-level customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers. Delivers direct, professional, and knowledgeable interactions with patients, physicians, referral sources, and the treatment team. Answers calls accurately with exceptional service at all times.

Ensures caller’s needs are met, accurate information is obtained, and calls are documented and triaged appropriately for patient satisfaction and safety. Acts as patient advocate and liaison with various departments to meet mutual goals. Maintains patient confidentiality regarding access to clinical information.

Addresses concerns of patients, provides service recovery, and escalates issues as needed. Applies policies to schedule appointments and completes reminder calls. Works in Maternal-Fetal Medicine Ultrasound supporting specialized maternity care.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and no experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered
  • Medical office or OB/GYN experience preferred
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire
