About this role

Under the direction of leadership, the RN IBCLC is accountable for provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards. Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level. Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services and assumes an expanded role which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities.

Per diem position available M-F days in the outpatient setting. Works closely as a team with a Breastfeeding Medicine provider, seeing patients with complex breastfeeding issues like babies with prematurity, failure to thrive, parents with low milk supply, infections, complex medication regimens and surgeries. Promoting breastfeeding/chestfeeding/lactation and supporting families through education and empowerment are critical.

Ideal for detail-oriented, reliable, competent team players facile with electronic documentation tools. Excellent communicator with patients and the healthcare team. Serves as a resource to other members of the team including learners and observers.

Requirements

  • IBCLC or CLC certification
  • RN degree
  • Strong background in lactation care for complex maternal-infant dyads
  • Understanding of medical concerns in breastfeeding/chestfeeding
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and competent
  • Facile with electronic documentation tools
  • Excellent communicator with patients and the healthcare team
  • Team player

Responsibilities

  • Assume expanded role including charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities
  • Work closely with Breastfeeding Medicine provider seeing patients with complex breastfeeding issues
  • Address cases involving prematurity, failure to thrive, low milk supply, infections, complex medication regimens, and surgeries
  • Promote breastfeeding/chestfeeding/lactation and support families through education and empowerment
  • Serve as a resource to team members, learners, and observers
