About this role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking a Dual Registered Nurse and Midwife to join in a permanent role at the new Springfield campus. This state-of-the-art facility opened in early 2026 as Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, offering 174 public beds with maternity, surgical, ICU and emergency services.

Inpatient Unit 2 is a 32-bed private surgical ward that includes six dedicated private maternity beds. The dual-trained role delivers safe, woman-centred maternity care while also providing excellent surgical nursing across a mixed patient cohort each shift.

You will work within a supportive team nursing environment that values evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary collaboration. The position offers opportunities for professional growth, including potential rotations through the dedicated Maternity Inpatient Unit to expand clinical skills.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted registration with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board as a dual Registered Nurse and Midwife.
  • Minimum of two years full-time equivalent clinical experience in the relevant specialty.
  • Proven experience working effectively in the specialty area.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently within a busy, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Postgraduate qualification in the relevant specialty or actively working towards one is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing and midwifery care to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments to guide individualised care planning.
  • Collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights, ensuring informed consent and respectful communication.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment by following safety and infection control policies.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and community services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Integrate research into practice and support nursing and midwifery research activities.
  • Take responsibility for clinical decisions and actions within your scope of practice.
