Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking a Dual Registered Nurse and Midwife to join in a permanent role at the new Springfield campus. This state-of-the-art facility opened in early 2026 as Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, offering 174 public beds with maternity, surgical, ICU and emergency services.

Inpatient Unit 2 is a 32-bed private surgical ward that includes six dedicated private maternity beds. The dual-trained role delivers safe, woman-centred maternity care while also providing excellent surgical nursing across a mixed patient cohort each shift.

You will work within a supportive team nursing environment that values evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary collaboration. The position offers opportunities for professional growth, including potential rotations through the dedicated Maternity Inpatient Unit to expand clinical skills.

Requirements

Current, unrestricted registration with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board as a dual Registered Nurse and Midwife.
Minimum of two years full-time equivalent clinical experience in the relevant specialty.
Proven experience working effectively in the specialty area.
Strong problem-solving, communication, coordination, and time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently within a busy, multidisciplinary team environment.
Postgraduate qualification in the relevant specialty or actively working towards one is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing and midwifery care to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
Perform thorough patient assessments to guide individualised care planning.
Collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
Advocate for patients’ rights, ensuring informed consent and respectful communication.
Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment by following safety and infection control policies.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and community services to ensure continuity of care.
Integrate research into practice and support nursing and midwifery research activities.
Take responsibility for clinical decisions and actions within your scope of practice.
