About this role

NorWest Community Health Centres, a community-based non-profit funded by Ontario Health, seeks 1 FTE permanent Midwife for the Thunder Bay site with services at Longlac, Armstrong, and Kakabeka. Provide midwifery within scope of practice as part of the team. Emphasize disease prevention, health promotion, education, and community partnerships.

Deliver low-risk and complex prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care for clients and babies, including expanded scope like performing NSTs, managing GDM, epidurals, oxytocin augmentation, and induction. Practice compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental, culturally sensitive care in an informed choice model. Focus on high-needs populations facing barriers to care.

Access salary range of $115,424 to $135,796 per year, Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan, and excellent group health benefits. Engage in program development, leadership, and potential expansion to contraceptive care, IUD insertion, fertility treatments. Obtain privileges at TBRHSC and use EMR, BORN systems.

Requirements

  • General Registrant in good standing with the College of Midwives of Ontario and QAP up to date
  • Member of the Association of Ontario Midwives
  • Up to date NRP, FHS, CPR, and Emergency skills certification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a midwife
  • Demonstrated experience in low-risk and complex care including NSTs, GDM, epidurals, oxytocin
  • Practice of compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental, culturally sensitive care
  • Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic, cultural issues and barriers to care
  • Current driver's license and access to a vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Provide midwifery services at Thunder Bay, Longlac, Armstrong, and Kakabeka sites
  • Deliver low-risk and complex prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care for clients and babies
  • Perform and evaluate non-stress tests (NSTs)
  • Manage gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), epidurals, oxytocin augmentation, and induction of labour
  • Promote disease prevention, health promotion, education, and community partnerships
  • Provide compassionate, respectful, culturally sensitive care to high-needs populations
  • Travel to designated outreach clinics using personal vehicle
