Certified Nurse Midwives at Cooley Dickinson OB-GYN & Midwifery provide expert care throughout the reproductive life span from teen years through menopause. They partner with pregnant people and families to promote optimal health in pregnancy and childbirth.

Under the direction of the Practice Manager and Practice Physicians, assess patient health status by obtaining histories, performing physical exams, and diagnosing problems. Manage care of women, including LGBTQ+ patients, during labor, delivery, and initial postpartum period. Provide safe, personalized care in antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and routine GYN settings.

Midwives collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team for prenatal care. Support inpatient and outpatient clinic teams on a per diem basis, with all births attended at the Childbirth Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Outpatient clinics are located in Northampton and Amherst, MA.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) certification
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Massachusetts Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with midwifery authorization
  • Master's degree in nurse-midwifery from an accredited program
  • Ability to provide care across antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and GYN settings
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams
  • Knowledge of fetal monitoring and labor management

Responsibilities

  • Assess the health status of patients by obtaining health and medical histories, performing physical examinations, and diagnosing health and developmental problems
  • Manage the care of women (including LGBTQ+ patients) during labor, delivery and the initial post-partum period
  • Provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and/or newborn care to patients
  • Monitor fetal development by listening to fetal heartbeat, taking external uterine measurements, identifying fetal position, or estimating fetal size and weight
  • Document patients' health histories, symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information
  • Provide patients with direct family planning services, such as inserting intrauterine devices, dispensing oral contraceptives, and fitting cervical barriers
  • Prescribe medications as permitted by state regulations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic or laboratory tests
