Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a part-time day shift RN Lactation Consultant for Labor Delivery Postpartum and Recovery. This 274-bed acute care facility specializes in maternity care alongside orthopedic, spine, heart, vascular, and general surgery services. It is a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence and a recognized Primary Stroke Center.

In this role, provide expert lactation support to new mothers and infants facing breastfeeding challenges. Assess feeding techniques, educate on proper latch and milk supply management, and collaborate with the maternity team to promote successful postpartum recovery. Daily tasks focus on mother-baby bonding in a dedicated maternity environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License - Compact/Multi-State License
  • RN-Associate's Degree OR RN-Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 year Nursing experience
  • Experience in Labor Delivery or maternity nursing
  • Knowledge of lactation support and mother-baby care
  • Ability to work in postpartum and recovery settings

Responsibilities

  • Provide lactation consultation and support in Labor Delivery Postpartum and Recovery
  • Educate mothers on breastfeeding techniques, newborn feeding, and milk supply management
  • Assess and address infant latch issues, positioning, and common lactation challenges
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians in maternity care units
  • Support mother-baby bonding and postpartum recovery through specialized interventions
  • Monitor and document lactation progress for new families
  • Promote best practices in maternity and baby care environments
