ERP International is seeking a full time Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant in support of Labor and Delivery at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center on Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. The role focuses on providing specialized lactation support to military members, their families, and retired veterans.

Daily work involves comprehensive lactation assessments of mothers and infants within the hospital setting. The consultant meets with all patients on the unit to assess feeding needs and document risks and benefits while delivering care to perinatal mothers desiring to breastfeed.

Collaboration occurs with a diverse healthcare team to facilitate optimal outcomes in clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness. Schedule flexibility supports staff meetings and teaching classes with start and end times approved by the government supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current unrestricted registered nurse license
  • Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Experience providing lactation support in a hospital Labor and Delivery or postpartum setting
  • Ability to perform physical exams and health assessments on mothers and newborns
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy related to breastfeeding
  • Skill in administering medications and wound care as needed for perinatal patients

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive lactation assessments of the mother and infant within the hospital setting according to postpartum and newborn nursery policies.
  • Provide comprehensive care to the perinatal mother desiring to breastfeed and assess anatomy to determine ability to breastfeed.
  • Meet with all patients on the unit to assess feeding needs and document form of feeding along with risks and benefits.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate optimal patient outcomes in clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Create a social environment that promotes learning for staff and patients.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group for teaching and education to benefit the patient, family, and organization.
