About this role

The Registered Undergraduate Student of Midwifery (RUSOM) works within RUSOM workplace guidelines to provide care as delegated by the Midwife. This occurs under the direction and supervision of the midwife in accordance with the midwifery care plan. The role spans antenatal and postnatal wards including the pregnancy assessment space.

Daily tasks involve delivering delegated midwifery care in a tertiary referral centre handling around 2000 births yearly. Support woman-centred care, family-centred care, and Baby Friendly Health Initiatives principles. Engage effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Bachelor of Midwifery student who has completed all first year requirements including clinical placements
  • Demonstrated understanding of woman-centred care, family-centred care, and BFHI principles
  • Ability to work as an effective team member in a healthcare environment within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication, written, verbal, and numeracy skills
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable)
  • Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (where applicable)
  • Current First Aid Certificate (desirable)

Responsibilities

  • Provide care as delegated by the Midwife within RUSOM workplace guidelines
  • Work under the direction and supervision of the midwife per the midwifery care plan
  • Support operations across antenatal and postnatal wards
  • Assist in the pregnancy assessment space
  • Contribute to woman-centred and family-centred care initiatives
  • Apply Baby Friendly Health Initiatives (BFHI) principles in practice
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team activities in maternity settings
