About this role

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides patient care in the Adult Midwifery Clinic following established standards and practices. This role assists physicians, nurses, and staff with daily coordination of patient care and access. It involves scheduling appointments, procedures, tests, and referrals while serving as a preceptor when needed.

Daily tasks include triaging calls to determine appropriate medical decisions such as diverting to the Emergency Department or scheduling with a primary care provider. The nurse answers telephones courteously, routes calls properly, and charts information accurately in the EMR system. Triage protocols guide care decisions in line with all policies and procedures.

Team collaboration requires filling in for other staff during absences and participating in the orientation of new personnel. The position maintains a comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean patient care environment. It reports suggestions for positive changes to leadership to improve office quality and quantity of work.

Professional growth comes from improving technical skills, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationship skills. The role relies on guidelines and some experience to complete tasks under general supervision. It may lead and direct the work of others within the scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Triage calls and determine appropriate medical decision making such as divert to Emergency Department or PCP
  • Answer telephone courteously, route calls properly, and chart information accurately in EMR
  • Use appropriate Triage protocols via EMR to guide patient care in conformance with policies
  • Assist in assessing medical and nursing care rendered within the practice and communicate needs for improvement
  • Complete all nursing duties scheduled during the shift accurately and timely
  • Explain therapies, tests, and treatments planned for patients and family members
  • Participate in orientation of new personnel to the office as required
  • Maintain the office as a comfortable, orderly, safe, clean patient care environment
