About this role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Lactation Consultant provides expert leadership in contemporary lactation care across Women’s and Children’s Services at the Launceston General Hospital. This senior role delivers specialist clinical support to staff, patients and families while driving service improvement and evidence-based practice.

Key duties include supporting mothers and families with complex breastfeeding needs and building relationships with service providers across Tasmania. The position also leads innovation, research and quality improvement initiatives within the Lactation Service.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with current registration.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated advanced practice in lactation and breastfeeding support.
  • Experience leading quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Ability to develop clinical protocols and deliver staff education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced clinical leadership and specialist lactation consultancy within professional and legislative scope.
  • Support staff, mothers and families with complex breastfeeding needs across Women’s and Children’s Services.
  • Build strong relationships with service providers across Tasmania to enhance access and continuity of care.
  • Lead innovation, research and quality improvement in lactation services.
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines for the Lactation Service.
  • Deliver education to nursing and midwifery staff to achieve and maintain Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation.
