Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The General Duty Nurse (N3) - Indigenous Lactation Consultant works under the Manager of Health Services at Health Sciences Centre - Women's Hospital in the Mother & Baby unit. This role focuses on coordination of care related to specialized breastfeeding support for the NICU Program.

The incumbent provides quality care grounded in Indigenous worldview and acts as a resource to other health care professionals. Responsibilities include participating in the discharge process and educating patients, family, staff, and students with respect to Indigenous breastfeeding knowledge and beliefs. Daily hours are 8.00 with anticipated shifts on days and weekends.

This is a designated Indigenous competition open to Indigenous applicants, with proof of ancestry requested. The position is unionized with MNU, at 0.70 FTE and anticipated start ASAP. Work arrangement is in person within a clinical job stream.

Applicants bring lived experience in Indigenous healthcare priorities alongside culture, protocols, and values in Manitoba. The role supports culturally safe care and traditional Indigenous healing practices in health services delivery. It offers integration with Indigenous Services Canada and Manitoba health care system.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years recent clinical experience in maternal or newborn nursing
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, applying an Indigenous lens to health operations and providing culturally safe care
  • Lived experience and understanding of Indigenous healthcare priorities, services, and challenges alongside Indigenous culture, protocols, traditions, and values
  • Experience in or knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and the relationship between ISC and the Manitoba health care system
  • Knowledge of Indigenous medicines, healing practices, cultural norms and protocols

Responsibilities
