About this role

Mahmee is on a mission to make the United States the best place in the world to give birth by providing wraparound pregnancy and postpartum care that treats the whole you. Mahmee's overarching goal with infant feeding is to deliver expert-level lactation support and education to families in-hospital and post-discharge. While promoting breastfeeding remains a primary objective, we respect a family's right to choose the best feeding method for them.

This role provides lactation support services seven days a week, primarily in the evening from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with at least one weekend shift per calendar month and days off during the week. The goal is to deliver quality, compassionate bedside patient care in the hospital setting to improve breastfeeding outcomes.

Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team with hospital staff, physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists to develop feeding plans for infants from normal newborns to complex neonates. Use clinical and critical thinking skills to assess, diagnose, and treat breastfeeding challenges at the bedside. Manage patient workload based on acuity levels while documenting in EHR and EPIC systems.

Gain exposure to diverse cases including NICU patients, pre-term deliveries, SGA, hyperbilirubinemia, low blood sugar, IUGR, and LGA. Provide instruction on latching, positioning, hand expression, breast pumps, and feeding devices like supplemental nursing systems and nipple shields.
