The Lactation Consultant provides direct effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their significant others. This role facilitates professional nursing practice through clinical expertise and teaching abilities. Acts as a preceptor for new staff and students by providing a professional role model.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Current New York State License as a Registered Nurse (or willingness to obtain)
  • Certified Lactation Consultant from International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Board (IBCLC)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related clinical experience
  • BCLS certification
  • RN experience in women's health or NICU preferred
  • Lactation experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their significant others
  • Facilitate professional nursing practice through clinical expertise and teaching abilities
  • Act as a preceptor for new staff and students by providing a professional role model
  • Educate staff and patients on lactation support
  • Support QA and QI initiatives
  • Assess and manage postpartum breastfeeding challenges
  • Promote successful breastfeeding initiation and continuation
  • Consult on lactation issues in antepartum and postpartum settings
