Performs assessments leading to development, implementation, and evaluation of a plan of care for lactation support. Administers, monitors, and documents therapeutic interventions for breastfeeding mothers and infants. Effectively manages rapidly changing situations interpartum and postpartum.

Educates patients and families on disease process, care needs, and safety issues specific to lactation. Participates in clinical decision-making, orientation, and performance improvement activities. Demonstrates ongoing development by maintaining professional competencies.

Requirements

  • Valid NJ RN License, approved and maintained per State of New Jersey Licensing Board
  • IBCLC certification required
  • Experience in assessing and supporting breastfeeding dyads
  • Knowledge of evidence-based lactation practices
  • Ability to coordinate patient care in maternity settings
  • Proficiency in clinical decision-making for postpartum care

Responsibilities

  • Performs an assessment of the patient, leading to development, implementation and evaluation of a plan of care
  • Administers, monitors and documents therapeutic interventions and regimes for lactation support
  • Effectively manages rapidly changing situations in maternity care
  • Participates in clinical decision-making
  • Educates patient and family regarding disease process, individual care needs, wellness, and safety issues
  • Delegates and monitors care rendered by other members of nursing department and healthcare team
  • Demonstrates standard precautions and patient safety principles in practice
