Educates patients and families on disease process, care needs, and safety issues specific to lactation. Participates in clinical decision-making, orientation, and performance improvement activities. Demonstrates ongoing development by maintaining professional competencies.

Requirements

Valid NJ RN License, approved and maintained per State of New Jersey Licensing Board
IBCLC certification required
Experience in assessing and supporting breastfeeding dyads
Knowledge of evidence-based lactation practices
Ability to coordinate patient care in maternity settings
Proficiency in clinical decision-making for postpartum care

Responsibilities

Performs an assessment of the patient, leading to development, implementation and evaluation of a plan of care

Participates in clinical decision-making
Educates patient and family regarding disease process, individual care needs, wellness, and safety issues

Demonstrates standard precautions and patient safety principles in practice
Identifies and participates in performance improvement activities
