Provision and coordination of in- and out-patient breastfeeding needs involves updating resources and documentation. Train staff and community in breastfeeding techniques while assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized teaching plans. Consider age-specific needs and behaviors of the patient population served.

Assist nurses and health professionals in patient breastfeeding assessment and intervention skills. Reports to RN/Nurse Manager within a system including Level III Neonatal Intensive Care and Pediatric Intensive Care. Participate in relevant committees and planning boards for collaborative impact.

Identify discharge planning needs and make appropriate referrals, providing telephone counseling as needed. Offer formal and informal staff educational programs and community resources. Attend seminars, read publications, and consult professionals to maintain expertise.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of Nursing
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of Nursing Experience
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Florida
  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of Obstetrical Nursing Experience (preferred)
  • One (1) to two (2) years as a Lactation Consultant (preferred)
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate provision and coordination of in- and out-patient breastfeeding needs, updating resources and documentation
  • Train staff and community in breastfeeding techniques
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized teaching plans for patients with specific learning needs
  • Identify discharge planning needs and make appropriate referrals

  • Maintain current and accurate patient breastfeeding materials and resources
