Well Baby Clinic supports our community's moms through their breastfeeding journey.

The primary responsibility is to facilitate a positive and successful experience with breastfeeding for patients who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. The Lactation Consultant utilizes knowledge of appropriate age-related protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA
  • One-year experience in women’s and children’s health services, breastfeeding practices, and newborn care
  • Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing or multistate licensure in NLC state
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within first 60 days of hire
  • Current Breastfeeding Counselor Certification (CBC), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), or Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) if not IBCLC
  • Obtain IBCLC when eligibility requirements are met, within 2 years
  • Maintains required department specific competencies and certifications

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a positive and successful experience with breastfeeding for patients
  • Provide physical and psychological care to breastfeeding mothers and infants
  • Utilize appropriate age-related protocols for patient physical and psychological needs
  • Support moms through their breastfeeding journey in Well Baby Clinic
  • Assess and address breastfeeding challenges using clinical expertise
  • Educate patients on breastfeeding practices and newborn care
