Well Baby Clinic supports our community's moms through their breastfeeding journey.

The primary responsibility is to facilitate a positive and successful experience with breastfeeding for patients who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. The Lactation Consultant utilizes knowledge of appropriate age-related protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of patients.

Requirements

Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA
One-year experience in women’s and children’s health services, breastfeeding practices, and newborn care
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing or multistate licensure in NLC state
Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within first 60 days of hire
Current Breastfeeding Counselor Certification (CBC), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), or Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) if not IBCLC
Obtain IBCLC when eligibility requirements are met, within 2 years
Maintains required department specific competencies and certifications

Responsibilities

Facilitate a positive and successful experience with breastfeeding for patients
Provide physical and psychological care to breastfeeding mothers and infants
Utilize appropriate age-related protocols for patient physical and psychological needs
Support moms through their breastfeeding journey in Well Baby Clinic
Assess and address breastfeeding challenges using clinical expertise
Educate patients on breastfeeding practices and newborn care
