About this role

As part of our recruitment strategy, we are looking to appoint a self-motivated, enthusiastic, dynamic Community Midwife Team Leader. This is an exciting opportunity to join the community leaders who cover Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals. Our community team cares for a diverse group of women and families providing high quality midwifery care.

The community midwife teams work in a named midwife model in GP practices, Children's centres and at home. The Team Leader will need highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management of unexpected events. Appointed applicants will be well supported with a personalised orientation.

The service is led by the Community Matron and each team comprises the Team Leader, Community Midwives, Maternity Support Workers and Community Administrators. Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to manage service needs, including acting up for the Community Matron. Be available for advice and support for team members when problems arise.

Requirements

  • Highly developed communication skills for maintaining high-quality service
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage service needs
  • Working knowledge of Trust and Professional Midwifery policies and procedures
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care holistically
  • Experience supporting, supervising and teaching junior staff and students
  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with professional regulations
  • Proactive role in Clinical Governance and service development

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care using a holistic and innovative women-centred evidence-based approach
  • Maintain high-quality service with highly developed communication skills and resolve unexpected events
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Trust and Professional Midwifery policies and implement accordingly
  • Support, supervise and teach less junior staff, students and support workers on clinical and non-clinical procedures
  • Act as a practice assessor and mentor to students as required
  • Participate in Clinical Governance by reporting serious incidents and service development
  • Participate in programmes of parent education in hospital and community settings
  • Ensure the safety of mothers and babies at all times
