About this role
Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The Lactation Consultant (N3), under the direction of the Manager of Health Services, coordinates specialized breastfeeding support for the NICU Program at Health Sciences Centre. This role is in the NICU Nursing unit within the Clinical job stream.
The incumbent provides quality care related to breastfeeding for NICU patients. Responsibilities include acting as a resource to other health care professionals and participating in the discharge process. Daily duties also involve educating patients, families, staff, and students with respect to breastfeeding.
Work occurs in person at Health Sciences Centre with anticipated shifts of days, evenings, and weekends. Daily hours are 10.00 with 2015 annual base hours and 1.00 FTE. The position supports the union MNU in a term role due to maternity leave.
This term position is anticipated from 05/19/2026 to 05/18/2027 and may end earlier per collective agreement. Opportunities include performing other related duties as assigned and maintaining scope of practice per the Regulated Health Professions Act. Active participation in professional associations is preferred.
Requirements
- Minimum three years recent clinical experience in maternal or newborn nursing
- Successful completion of certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing required
- Responsible for maintaining registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
- Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training per Shared Health policy
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
