About this role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides total comprehensive nursing to patients and families through developing, implementing, reassessing, evaluating, and revising the plan of care. As a Lactation Consultant, this RN educates, cares for, and advocates for breastfeeding families both in and out of the hospital. The role supports internal healthcare professionals in facilitating breastfeeding as required.

RNs perform psychosocial/physiologic assessments, considering patients' cultural, ethical, and spiritual needs, reviewing trends of similar patients, and physicians' orders. They integrate knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet needs throughout the continuum of care, including patient and family education. Practice actively incorporates nursing regulations, standards, Franciscan Alliance processes, and procedures.

They collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes and enhance patient experience.

RNs assess comprehensive objective, subjective, psychosocial, and cultural data to develop and implement plans of care in collaboration with patients and families. They prioritize and coordinate care delivery, employ interventions to improve outcomes, and communicate timely changes in assessments. Documentation in the electronic medical record maintains continuity among nursing teams.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Adherence to nursing practice standards, state nurse practice act, and governing agency regulations
  • Ability to perform psychosocial/physiologic assessments considering cultural, ethical, spiritual needs
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding education, care, and advocacy for families in hospital and outpatient settings
  • Experience supporting healthcare professionals in facilitating breastfeeding
  • Proficiency in patient and family education throughout continuum of care
  • Skills in electronic medical record documentation for care continuity

Responsibilities

  • Practice nursing according to organization philosophies, standards of care, state board of nursing, nurse practice act, and governing regulations
  • Establish compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and coworkers
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhance patient experience
  • Assess, collect, and analyze comprehensive objective, subjective, psychosocial, and cultural data pertinent to patient condition
  • Develop and implement plan of care in collaboration with patient and family, continually reviewing and revising as condition warrants
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment by handling instruments, equipment, supplies per infection-control policies
  • Prioritize and implement identified plan, coordinate care delivery, employ interventions to improve patient outcomes
  • Communicate timely changes in patient assessment to providers and multidisciplinary team, document in electronic medical record
