About this role
The Lactation Consultant plays a vital role in enhancing the breastfeeding experience for expectant and new parents on the LDRP unit. This position provides education, support, counseling, and hands-on assistance to patients and families. It also serves as a clinical resource for staff, promoting evidence-based lactation practices and optimal maternal-infant outcomes.
Daily duties include delivering direct patient care through assessment and management of breastfeeding concerns. Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members. Identify, assess, and manage common and complex breastfeeding issues while promoting a family-centered approach.
Work closely with medical and nursing staff on the LDRP unit to resolve challenges and educate on best practices. Maintain accurate documentation in line with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Interface with diverse customers in a modern, well-equipped environment using breastfeeding-related patient care equipment.
Serve as a leader for lactation-related initiatives and quality improvement efforts. Support nursing staff with current evidence-based guidelines. Contribute to optimal outcomes in a collaborative, caring work environment at Meritus.
Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Women’s Health, including patient education
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or advanced practice role
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain strong organizational skills
- Previous experience in an LDRP or Mother-Baby unit preferred
- Attains and maintains certification in lactation specialty
- Current BLS in compliance with policy required

- Identify, assess, and manage common and complex breastfeeding issues
- Promote a supportive, family-centered approach to breastfeeding within the LDRP unit
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
- Serve as a leader and resource for lactation-related initiatives and quality improvement efforts
