About this role

It's more than a career, it's a calling. Provides lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants. Serves as a lactation-related clinical resource, educator, and mentor at SSM Health Dean Medical Group.

Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patients' lactation goals and issues. Instructs and demonstrates proper techniques while promoting the importance of breastfeeding. Identifies the need for standard patient teaching plans and assists with their development.

Acts as a liaison to staff and physicians when addressing breastfeeding needs. Contributes to the development of data tools to monitor and improve outcomes. Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice.

Delivers nursing care based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service. Demonstrates the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to health and nursing needs.

Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Ensures constant standing, walking, and use of speech for effective oral communication.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
  • Three years' registered nurse experience
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication
  • Constant standing and walking
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs
