About this role

The Associate Midwifery Unit Manager works in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager to lead the efficient and effective provision of maternity care based on best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework. This role supports North West Maternity Services across the North West Regional Hospital and satellite sites including Mersey Community Hospital, King Island, Smithton, and West Coast District Hospitals.

Assist the MUM with planning and management of staff and resources while providing operational leadership through coordination of day-to-day client facing activities, including appointment re/scheduling and staff leave management. Ensure maintenance of effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders to promote client care delivery.

The team delivers full scope maternity care with antenatal clinics, parenting education, pregnancy and postnatal assessments, a 4-bed birthing suite, 20-bed inpatient ward, 8-bed special care nursery, and extended care services post-discharge. Dedicated lactation services connect with allied health for social work, women’s health physio, diabetes, and perinatal mental health.

Provide high level clinical knowledge to uphold standards, policies, and procedures for a client-focused model of care. Act as a role model and clinical resource to offer advice, support service development, and promote positive change in Tasmania’s public health system.

Requirements

  • Clinical expertise in full scope maternity care including antenatal, birthing, postnatal, and special care nursery services
  • Leadership experience in midwifery unit operations and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of best practice principles for maternity care delivery
  • Skills in staff and resource planning and management within maternity services
  • Ability to coordinate client-facing activities and manage appointments and leave
  • Proficiency in maintaining stakeholder communication for care promotion
  • High-level clinical skills to uphold midwifery standards and policies

Responsibilities
