The Patient Care Assistant provides patient care in Labor and Delivery, participating in data collection, planning, and implementation of care. Daily tasks include performing vital signs, intake and output measurements, EKGs, glucometry, phlebotomy, and specimen collection, with full documentation. Follow treatment plans directed by licensed personnel, ensure patient comfort, and mobilize patients using proper body mechanics. Accept responsibility for safe, appropriate, quality patient care.

Communicate changes in patients' conditions to the unit-based team, restock supplies, and perform equipment checks. Take an active role in unit-based performance improvement and maintain awareness of unit budget. Float as needed per unit and hospital policy.

Maintain professional development through in-services, continuing education, and competency completion. Assist in orienting and educating new staff. Join a compassionate team committed to patient satisfaction in maternity care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Health care specialty training preferred
  • BLS certification within 60 days of hire
  • Basic computer skills
  • Completion of St. Luke’s APC and MT courses or competency testing
  • Ability to sit up to 7 hours, stand 10 hours, walk 6 hours per day
  • Lift/carry up to 75 lbs, transport patients up to 400 lbs
  • Frequent stooping, bending, reaching; normal vision, hearing, touch

Responsibilities
