About this role

Join our maternity team to make a real difference to the experience of new parents, their babies and their families and whānau. This casual position offers current NZ Bachelor of Midwifery Programme students a unique opportunity to develop skills while studying. Work around your timetable at Southland Hospital Maternity Ward.

As a Maternity Care Assistant, support midwives by assisting with patient care under supervision. Handle basic baby care such as bathing, changing nappies and settling babies. Clean equipment, prepare birthing rooms, assist women with showering and meal times, plus clerical and general duties.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a New Zealand Bachelor of Midwifery programme
  • Dynamic and friendly with a high level of initiative
  • Committed to high standards of practice
  • Well organised
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Motivated, flexible and enthusiastic
  • Experience working with people in a caring capacity (advantageous)

Responsibilities

  • Support midwives by assisting with patient care under supervision
  • Clean equipment and prepare birthing rooms
  • Provide basic baby care including bathing, changing nappies and settling babies
  • Assist women with showering and at meal times
  • Perform clerical duties and other general duties to support department operations
