About this role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Perinatal Mental Health serves as a senior member of the multidisciplinary Perinatal Mental Health Team within Adult Community Mental Health Services. This specialised role delivers expert mental health care to women, infants, and families facing perinatal mental health needs in the community setting. Services include assertive case management and crisis intervention.
In this position, you will assist in providing specialist care to those identified as at risk of or experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders across the designated region. Core duties involve specialist mental health assessments and clinical management during the perinatal period. These efforts aim to promote positive maternal mental health and strengthen parent-infant relationships.
The North West Perinatal Community Mental Health Service offers a supportive environment focused on holistic physical and mental health assessments, triage, clinical risk management, and community-based interventions. As part of a Tasmanian multidisciplinary team, the role integrates within broader maternity care networks. This setup ensures comprehensive support for perinatal clients.

Requirements
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience within Mental Health Services with understanding of Perinatal and Infant Mental Health clinical practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric disorders which may occur in the perinatal period and appropriate treatments
- Demonstrated knowledge of antenatal and postnatal factors affecting an infant’s emotional, social, cognitive and behavioural development
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing specialist care to women, infants and their families at risk of moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders
- Provide specialist mental health assessment and clinical management to women in the perinatal period
- Promote positive maternal mental health and enhance the parent-infant relationship
- Deliver assertive case management and triage within the community setting
- Conduct holistic physical and mental health assessments
- Manage clinical risk and perform crisis intervention for perinatal clients
