About this role

The Perinatal Mental Health Clinician carries out the mission of the Perinatal Depression Program by responding to calls on the 866-364-MOMS hotline. They provide emotional support, assess caller status, and develop joint intervention plans. Results of activities are reported to the director or coordinator.

Day-to-day tasks include maintaining a steady affective state amid high anxiety or depression symptoms from callers. Clinicians offer support, empathy, normalization, and validation while thoroughly assessing for depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. They explore internal strengths, environmental stressors, and supports like marital relationships.

Initiate outreach calls to patients scoring in the depressed range on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Complete psychosocial assessments, provide support, and develop joint action plans, returning documentation within 24 hours. Document all hotline and outreach calls according to program standards within 24 hours.

Work remotely in a per diem role providing coverage 7 days a week across days, evenings, and nights. Maintain regular contact with the director or coordinator for complex situations. Participate in phone conferences and meetings, applying Perinatal Depression Program policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, Doctorate, or PhD in Mental Health Services
  • 3 years of experience in the area of mental health services
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
  • Competent and comfortable with telephone contact with potentially extremely distressed callers
  • Exceptionally sensitive interview skills and excellent time management ability
  • Understanding of the dynamics and etiology of postpartum depression as a crisis

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support to callers to the phone hotline
  • Assess status of callers including symptoms of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation
  • Develop joint plans for intervention identifying appropriate resources
  • Initiate outreach calls to patients scoring high on Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale
  • Complete psychosocial assessments of patients and develop joint action plans
  • Document all hotline calls and outgoing patient outreach calls within 24 hours
  • Return completed assessment documentation to director or coordinator within 24 hours
  • Participate in phone conferences and meetings with program staff as scheduled

  • Hourly Pay Range: $30.46 - $45.69 determined by expertise and years of experience
